UNIVERSITY PARK ALLIANCE OFFERS FREE GREEN UNIVERSITY PARK SHUTTLE SERVICE AUG. 16
Akron, Ohio, Aug. 5, 2008 — University Park residents and visitors can “Go Green” as they travel between environmentally friendly events on Saturday, Aug. 16.
University Park Alliance (UPA), in cooperation with the City of Akron, will offer free “Green University Park” shuttles from 1 to 6 p.m. Two shuttles will make scheduled stops every 30 minutes throughout the afternoon at the University Park Art Fair at Grace Park; Don Drumm Studios & Gallery, which is holding its annual sale; and the Green Energy Expo at the John S. Knight Center. Parking is available nearby at each site, and the public is encouraged to park and ride the shuttles throughout the afternoon.
Between stops, tour guides will highlight sustainable living points of interest in University Park, such as the Andrew Jackson House, a historic mansion being converted into a “green” building featuring a geothermal heating and cooling system; new and future University Park bike routes; Spicer Village, the newly constructed environmentally focused community; and the Summa Center on East Market Street, an adaptive reuse project listed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks.
University Park Alliance is a partnership between The University of Akron, the City of Akron, Summa Health System, Akron Beacon Journal, AMHA, Akron Public Schools, the Greater Akron Chamber, and the University Park Development Corporation to help revitalize the University Park neighborhood. Major funding for this effort is provided by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
