Surrounded by so many powerful institutions, University Park offers plenty of opportunity to capitalize on an already existing and diverse population.
The University of Akron has a student enrollment approaching 30,000, and our anchor institutions employ more than 20,000. So there is a real opportunity to capture this population. We seek to develop housing and neighborhood-level services attractive to young 
professionals and empty-nesters desiring an urban lifestyle experience at an attractive price point.
We also support mixed-use development as a vehicle to activate neighborhood streetscapes and create a stronger sense of place. By facilitating these projects and participating through joint venture, UPA seeks a return on its investment: either as income or as investment space within the development for select social enterprises, local retail and affordable housing units.
Some specific initiatives include:

- Develop neighborhood model block program
- Offer current and emerging resident housing rehabilitation assistance
